Combining the ease and accuracy of solar quartz with a 24-hour hand for tracking a second time zone, it’s everything you expect from a Seiko diver’s watch, and so much more.

The robust 45mm stainless steel case and 200 meters of water resistance allow this diver’s watch to go anywhere a serious explorer can imagine. Under the stylish pressed-pattern dial, the new 5K65 movement turns ambient light into accurate timekeeping.

The first Seiko solar-powered watch with a GMT function, its brightly colored 24-hand opens a new frontier for the Seiko diver’s watch.
Seiko Solar Diver’s Watch With A GMT Function
Among a handful of recent Seiko Prospex releases, two new models stood out as being both unexpected and exciting – the new Seiko Prospex Solar GMT SFK001 and SFk003. Based on the common and well-loved “Sumo” case and dial design, these new SFK references look familiar while employing a brand new movement that is both solar-powered and features a local jumping (aka. flyer) GMT function. See what I mean by unexpected and exciting? Both of these new dive-GMTs use 45mm steel cases that are 13.2mm thick and 51.8mm lug-to-lug. Likewise, both come on a steel dive bracelet, have 200 meters of water resistance, closed casebacks, sapphire crystals with inner AR treatments, and Seiko’s LumiBrite treatment for the hands and markers.

The GMT function wisely takes a back seat to the dive layout, with both of the SFKs sporting a standard steel bezel and a 24-hour scale that is nicely integrated into the outer edge of the dial. Both models have orange GMT elements and simple date apertures at three o’clock on the dial. The new movement is the Seiko 5k65 and its solar-quartz technology offers a maximum power reserve of nine months and accuracy of +/- 15 seconds a month. The GMT function is controlled via the crown and the movement of the date is tied to the local hour hand (as it should be), offering the ability to correct the date in either direction if needed.

The SFK001 and 003 with each retail for $775 via Seiko retailers this spring. Between the sizing and the functionality, I think it’s safe to say that it’s a lot of watch for the money.
