Omega Constellation AventurineMarch 18, 2022
Luxury watches are taking a page from early ‘90s fashion watches this year by embracing color, perhaps to celebrate the end of the pandemic. Omega is leading the charge with three new multi-hued models in its Constellation collection. The 2022 Constellation collection is organized in three sizes, each with its own color scheme. The 28mm size is a pastel party, with dials tinted blush rose, patchouli blossom (purple ), celestial blue and green matcha. The engraved Roman numerals on the bezel are filled in with colors to match the dial, and because the hands are skeletonized, the dial color shines through. A dozen diamonds on the dial serve as hour markers. Cases and bracelets are brushed and polished stainless steel. The movement is quartz. The 29mm OMEGA Constellation Aventurine uses a natural hardstone called aventurine to convey the color, here in well-saturated primary blue, green and red. Flecks of natural matrix show through, so no two are exactly alike. The red leather strap matches this effect, with gold glittered scale lines, while the green and blue ones are regular leather with embossed scale lines. This trio of Constellations, being slightly fancier – they have automatic mechanical movements – come in gold or two-tone gold/steel. The gold is Omega’s proprietary rose gold alloy, called Sedna gold. There are also diamond bezel options. The movement is the caliber 8700 or 8701, with central hours, minutes, seconds, and date window at 6 o’clock. The 41mm Constellation is a little more subdued, but only by comparison to the others in this new crop of Constellations. It has a standout blue ceramic bezel ring and a white ceramic dial, with blue markers and strap to match. Also in the pipeline for this collection are variations with rhodium-gray, gradient-green or burgundy dials, with matching straps. Cases are stainless steel, two-tone steel and yellow gold or steel and Sedna gold. The trio featured have diamond-set bezels, skeletonised hour and minute hands and dial matching leather straps in shimmering blue, red with glittered scale lines or green. Providing the power is OMEGA’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer calibre 8701, visible through the domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. Fans can choose bezels paved with diamonds or engraved with Roman numerals. Replacing the famous mono-rang bracelet are leather straps in colours to match the dial. The driving force behind the natural dials is OMEGA’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8700 – or 8701 for the all-gold models.
